Happy Camp for ages 3-12 is Merrimack Hall’s annual half-day performing arts camp for children with special needs. Happy Camp is open to students with a wide range of physical and intellectual disabilities including autism spectrum disorders, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy and others. The first camp was held in June 2009. Today, 30 children participate in Happy Camp each summer.
A conversation with a parent who mentioned the lack of summer activities for her child led to the start of Happy Camp. Activities in Happy Camp include music, theater, dance and visual art. Each day features classes in all four disciplines and provides positive outlets for our participants during the summer. Each session ends with a showcase attended by parents and friends. With a positive approach, engaging philosophy and 1:1 staff-to- camper ratio, our overall experience is different from any other.
Happy Camp provides our students with opportunities to build social skills and creates an environment where they are sure to succeed!
Happy Camp is provided at no cost to the families involved. Merrimack Hall is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and we rely on donations from individuals and corporations to offer these programs to people in need. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
