Camp Merrimack is open to students with a wide range of physical, mental and emotional needs, including autism, Down Syndrome, cancer and Cerebral Palsy. Merrimack Hall is proud to double the number of students participating in the 2010 camp, as a result of the success of our 2009 camp. This summer, 60 children ages 3-12 will attend the week-long camps, and will participate in activities such as music, theatre, dance and arts and crafts activities. Merrimack Hall is currently recruiting volunteers to provide assistance to the children and anticipates having more than 120 volunteers working during the sessions. Camp Merrimack is provided at a low cost to families: $75.00 enrollment for the week, including a camp t-shirt. Tuition costs offset a small portion of the camp's budget; major funding is acquired through patron donations and grants. Camp Merrimack presents Merrimack Hall with the opportunity to reach out to more students with disabilities to include them in the performing arts.
Like our other outreach programs, Camp Merrimack was designed to provide performing arts education to children who would otherwise not be able to participate due to their personal physical challenges. .
Each year, we require the assistance of nearly 60 volunteers to assist our campers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Hayley Henderson, outreach director.
If you would like to sponsor a child's Camp Merrimack tuition, please click here to donate online. We believe that every child who dreams of dancing should have the chance to, regardless of their limitations. To date, Merrimack Hall has given back more than $250,000 to the community through our outreach programs.
Major funding for this program has been provided by the Jane K. Lowe Charitable Foundation, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
